Today I read a lovely “lift-the-flap” book, Whooo loves you?, by Sandra Magsamen. It is bright in color with a playfully decorative style.
It begins with, “The birds on the clothesline sing…(lift-the-flap to reveal) You’re my little tweetheart, your’re my little tweetheart” and ends with the reader saying, “I love you! I love you!”
I can easily imagine snuggling up with a young child to enjoy the love notes shared in this book. The words and pictures hidden under the flaps are sure to delight readers and listeners. They provide opportunity for the reader to spark excitement, surprise, and extra hugs as each is revealed to the listener.
Of all the pictures in the book, my personal favorite is the cow whose spots are made of black hearts.
For sharing with a young lap child, I recommend this book. With a little voice inflection and exaggerated emotion, it is sure to be a repeated favorite paving the path to a love of reading.
