Last week at school we celebrated the spring season with a day of activities and fun for the children. One of the included activities was face painting. Each child got to choose what they wanted. In my class, there was a tiger, a crown, a rainbow, a dragon… all the usual suspects in the realm of face painting including several curly mustaches on a few precious girls!
But the one face that took my breath away belonged to Lucy. At first I could
only see her right cheek and noticed that she had little red hearts painted there. To my surprise, when the painting was finished, she turned around to show me the whole job and across her forward was painted I♥Godbold.
I was stunned to say the very least. I love my students and I do my best to accept their love graciously, but this stopped me in my tracks. Can you say humbled? There were several other adults in the room who oohed and aaahed at the sight which was a good thing because it gave me a moment to get myself together.
The level of adoration that this gesture suggested to me was more than I can reasonably accept. I continue in awe just wondering what in the world did I ever do to deserve such love?
