Create What You Want in 2014

Teaching in 2014Why do we mark holidays, anniversaries, birthdays… as important? More importantly, HOW do you mark them? For instance, how did you mark the New Year?

In your Zap of Wynn (the video at the bottom of this page) today, I will give you three questions to ask yourself that will make a big difference in how you mark the end of 2013 and begin 2014. I’m talking about much more than celebrating on New Year’s Eve. In case you were thinking, “New Year’s is over.” I’m talking about releasing the old and clearing the path for creating what you want in 2014.

Find out why this is so important for us teachers and get the guidance you need to create more joy by watching the video.

Have a blessed week,

Wynn

PS- Put your nickels in a jar… How to Be a Great Teacher: Create the Flow of Joy and Success in Your Classroom will be hitting shelves January 2014. Whoop Whoop. Teachers who have read the drafts have LOVED it.

Wow! This one took a long time! 🙂 I was trying to remember 2013, and then I just hopped on facebook and looked back through my pictures! I had a great year overall! I have a lot of pictures of my amazing class last year; my friends, work-friends and family; vacations; just good times!
Joys: I got Teacher of the Year at my school! My husband and I got our ferret babies! New opportunities came up or my husband and I was able to find work in a new place doing what I love! There were a lot of small joyous moments…
Lessons: I can handle more than I think I can. I have been overwhelmed from the moment we moved – I was hired a week before school started, there was more to do than time allowed and I still don’t feel completely caught up! But, I am still alive and doing what I can to move forward and teach my kids as much as I can!
Wrap-up & Release: This one was the hardest – How do you know what to do to wrap up and release a year? (Especially for a teacher when our year ends in June?) I think THIS activity has helped me wrap up the year. I remembered and reflected on many things that I would have just let slip away – the NKOTB concert I saw with my childhood BFF, the day Chris found out he got the job in Durham, the day at the beach that I finally (3 years later!) got my husband and father-in-law to pose for a picture with the Blues Brothers statues in Myrtle Beach! Those little moments are forever on facebook in my albums, but I probably would not have bothered to really remember and reflect on those times without this prompt to do so. I think this is the best way to wrap it up – simply remember. If there were tough times – what did I do to overcome them? For the good times – who was I with and how can I get that feeling again? (without being stuck trying to re-live that time.)

      Carmen,
Such wisdom I read in your comments. Wow a great year you had as well.
Congratulations again on being TOY at your school. I loved seeing your pictures 🙂

You hit on something so powerful in the place you most doubted yourself- the wrap up and release. You took the time to do the reflection. For many of us the pure act of reflecting is how we wrap it up. We remember, we pause, we re-think… Other folks include small ceremonies. Something like lighting a candle at the beginning of the reflection time, blowing it out at the end while sending a blessing out to all the folks remembered. Even from the example, you see the reflection is the most important part and you did it!

I also LOVE that you said “without being stuck trying to re-live that time.” Girl, for real! Creating more opportunities that make us feel those feelings again is very different than trying to re-live.

      You are so wise.

I am so glad you have a good teacher. You are lucky to have had many good tearhecs at your school. Good tearhecs can inspire you to be a better person and to have a love for learning. I am so glad you enjoy reading and learning!

We were just there! You will have so much fun. :)The monorail tram is a great and you can get coounps for two & three day passes. You can ride unlimited times for 48 or 72 hours. I strongly discourage the city buses (very crowded) and cab fares are very expensive. Being pregnant, my taste buds are off, so picking an entree at restaurants is hard. So, we did a 24 hour unlimited buffet pass for $45 each that can be used at 7 different hotel/casinos. This not only saved money, but it was easy to just stop and eat in whatever place we were (even if it is just for a snack/drink). The Caesars buffet, Planet Hollywood, and Paris were our favorites. The nightly water show at the Bellagio was a favorite. I would suggest finding a 2nd floor restaurant with a balcony either at Bellagio or across the street, so you can watch the show while you eat. Just beautiful! There are several ticket stands that offer show tickets at discounted prices. These prices really are cheaper and the staff seamed to be knowledgeable about the shows. But, I will prepare you for the “no edit button”. Any concierge or ticket sales person will suggest some sort of topless, strip, or inappropriate show for you. I apparently was not quite prepared for their suggestions.Y’all will have super fun. We were totally exhausted but it was well worth it. 🙂
